The authorities of the Ikorodu Local Government has assured that the council’s legislative building will be opened for business of lawmaking that it was constructed for, almost a year after the same structure was commissioned.

The structure which was commissioned by the administration of the immediate past Chairman, Hon. Wasiu Adeshina, we gathered, was incomplete.

Some sources also alleged that the Honourable Councillors refused to move into the building because it is structurally defective. But, it has been revealed that the structure is not defective in any way but that what caused the delay was lack of furniture and fittings in the building which was commissioned by the administration of the immediate past chairman, Hon. Wasiu Adeshina.

Senator Tokunbo Abiru, the Senator representing the Lagos East Senatorial District commissioned the edifice on the last day of the chairman in office. Also in attendance at the commissioning were Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, former deputy governor of Lagos State who the building was named after.

The structure, which was named Prince Abiodun Ogunleye Legislative Chamber, was initiated in the last few weeks of Adeshina’s administration and was rushed to be completed and commissioned with most of the interior work still not put in place.

THE IMPACT gathered from some cabinet members that served with Hon. Adeshina that some of them opposed the construction of the project since the administration was winding down but the former chairman went ahead.

Since the celebratory commissioning on July 25, 2025, the building has been under lock and key with the Councillors forced to make use of the old chamber which is no longer convenient for their legislative businesses.

It was gathered that the administration of Hon. Adedayo Ladega on resumption into office last year embarked on completing the interior and furnished the facility.

An Honourable Councillor who spoke with our reporter about two weeks ago said that there was nothing wrong with the building but added that there was nothing like toilet facilities and the offices were incomplete.

Speaking with THE IMPACT on the project, the Chief Press Secretary to the Ikorodu LG Chairman, Mr Akeem Mustapha, said that the interior work and installation of furniture and fittings have been over 90% completed and that Councillors will move into the new chamber soon.

He added that the administration of Hon. Ladgega has been ensuring that necessary facilities are put in place in the building with about 20 offices and the legislative chamber.

Responding to the allegation that the Councillors have not moved into the chamber because the building is structurally defective, the CPS said that is not correct and that it would have been the focus of the present administration if that was the case.

“If the structure is defective, that would have been the focus of Ladega’s administration instead of embarking on its completion and provision of furniture.

“You should also note that the Chairman is into real estate and he would have known if the building was in bad state.

“The building is not in any way defective, the only thing is that there is nothing inside the building since it was commissioned and that is what this administration has been addressing. I can tell you that it is over 90% completed and will soon be commissioned,” the CPS to Hon. Ladega said.
